Just a few years after World War II, young Michael meets a woman named Hanna, twice his age, a mysterious and lonely woman. Their affair is passionate and their intense relationship, among other things, includes him reading her literary classics. However, Hanna soon disappears and Michael sees her again only eight years later when, as a law student, he attends a court trial for Nazi war crimes. Kate Winslet stars as Hanna, the role that earned her the first (and thus far only) Oscar, with young David Kross and Ralph Fiennes as Michael.
